TWO Vic Metro representatives from the Western Jets at this year’s under-18 national championships will be hoping some impressive showings caught the eyes of AFL recruiters over the past six weeks.
James Sicily and Jake Greiser, both former juniors of Essendon District Football League club, Keilor, enjoyed good portions of game time over Metro’s five outings in the carnival.
Metro skipper Luke McDonald, currently plying his trade with Werribee in the VFL and already bound for North Melbourne as a father-son selection, also enjoyed a solid carnival as part of Metro’s back line setup.
In the final game of the carnival against Vic Country, McDonald again rated a mention among Metro’s best players while Sicily got among the goals and was handy across the wing as a link man, a role he played for the entire carnival.
Greiser was not involved in last Wednesday’s clash at Etihad Stadium, but five days earlier was named Metro’s third-best player in a tough five-point loss to South Australia at Simonds Stadium.
In the final double-header fixture at Etihad Stadium, all South Australia needed was a win to claim its first Division One title, and the Crow Eaters did so by 10 points over Western Australia.
With nothing but pride on the line, Vic Metro then went on to finish its campaign in style with a solid 19-point win over Country.
