ALTONA continued on its winning way through the Western Region Football League season with a comprehensive 68-point victory against North Footscray on Saturday.
The Vikings forced their way on top in the contest early, taking a 24-point lead into quarter time and then extending that to 39 points at the main break.
After kicking five goals in the first half, goals became hard to come by for the Devils and they could manage just one major in the second half.
There was no such problem for Altona, with a five-goal third term sealing the 17.16 (118) to 6.14 (50) win.
Jayden Post continued his outstanding season for Altona, kicking five goals to be the leading forward on the ground.
Post has now kicked 52 goals for the season, including hauls of five or better in four of his last five matches.
Also for Altona, Abdul Jawad booted three goals while Josh Russo was dangerous across the ground.
For North Footscray, Samuel Kater was named the club’s best player and finished with one goal.
The result sees Altona remain in second place on the WRFL ladder.
After Deer Park suffered a shock loss to Sunshine on Saturday, the Vikings are now just one game behind the Lions.
North Footscray is still searching for its first win of the season and remains in 10th spot.
This week will see Altona take on Deer Park in what will be a blockbuster clash while North Footscray will do battle against the struggling Albion.
Elsewhere in the WRFL, Yarraville-Seddon secured arguably its best win of the year, defeating Port Melbourne by four points.
The Eagles trailed throughout the first half however, turned the match with a four goal to one third term.
Port Melbourne continued to fight on in the final term but it wasn’t enough to topple Yarraville which secured the 13.12 (90) to 12. 14 (86) win.
Clinton Foreman was outstanding for the Eagles, booting four goals in a near best on ground performance.
The result sees Yarraville move into eighth spot on the division one ladder with a 3-9 win/loss record for the season.
The Eagles will look to make it back-to-back wins this weekend when they take on the struggling Hoppers Crossing.
