LOCAL residents and staff at Altona Meadows Aged Care are getting ready for a big bake-off all in the name of charity.
During August Residents and staff at the aged care facility will all be making a real difference for people in need, simply by cooking, sharing and enjoying delicious homemade treats as part of the Red Cross Cake Bake.
Altona Meadows Aged Care resource manager Elizabeth King said the Big Cake Bake was a great chance for residents to raise money for a great cause.
“The residents love it, they love a different reason for doing things,” Ms King said.
“We raise money for ourselves, (the resident) appreciate it just as much if not more raising money for something else.”
She said it was also a great way for them to stay connected to their community.
“It keeps them in touch with what’s going on in the community,” she said.
Big Cake Bake day is officially Monday 26 August, but events can be held throughout August.
Big Cake Bake is a simple, fun and social fund-raising event which encourages Australians to come together and share fabulous homemade cakes and delights in their workplaces, schools and social groups.
The aged care facility is getting ready to host their Big Cake Bake on Wednesday 21 August from 10am to 3pm.
The residents and staff will put their baking skills to the test when they hold a bake-off against the two aged care wings and a mini-paddy pan cake race with residents in their wheelchairs.
Staff will also be making cakes for residents to decorate, with the community invited to be tempted with a delicious cake stall that will be held from noon-1pm with all proceeds of the day going to the Red Cross.
