RENEE Hulls is taking the netball world by storm.
The Sunshine Senior Constable will be swapping her badge and baton for a netball skirt when she competes in the Australian mixed team at the Netball World Titles in Queensland next month.
Not only will the Keilor Downs resident be playing in the competition – she’ll also be donning the coach’s hat.
The dedicated police officer has been perfecting her court skills for almost 15 years.
Although it’s not the first time she’s competed at an elite level, the 34-year-old admitted she was a little daunted by the prospect of coaching for the first time in the prestigious competition.
But she will be drawing on her experience coaching the Victorian mixed team earlier this year.
As coach of her team, Ms Hulls said she was often forced to make some tough decisions about her own performance.
“I purposely picked some very good captains who are not afraid to tell me if I’m not playing well,” Ms Hulls said.
“When that happens, I make sure I take myself off the court.”
A police officer for more than a decade, Ms Hulls competed in last year’s championships in South Africa.
She said she was excited by the prospect of playing in front of a home crowd this time round.
“I’m really excited and proud,” Ms Hulls said.
“I can’t wait to get out there and enjoy it.”
Ms Hulls is not the only Brimbank police officer turning heads in the sporting world, with another policewoman recently competing with the Australian Volleyball team.
