MELTON City Council has adopted master plans that will guide the future use and development of recreation reserves across the city.
The future development of the Arnolds Creek Recreation Reserve, Burnside Heights Recreation Reserve, Navan Park and Taylors Hill Recreation Reserve are all outlined in the plan.
Council’s Leisure Services Manager Adrian Burns said works had already started at Navan Park and Burnside Heights.
Mr Burns said each reserve was chosen for development because there was a strong community demand or projected demand for open space and active recreation facilities in those areas.
CEO Kelvin Tori said the master plans would guide the development of the reserves to cater for the needs of the community.
The master plans for Arnolds Creek Recreation Reserve include future works for two football and cricket ovals with lights, a pavilion and accessible play space.
An interactive district level play space, skate park and community plaza are among improvements earmarked for Burnside Heights Recreation Reserve.
Improved and additional children’s play space, informal football and basketball areas are planned for Navan Park in Melton West.
Future works proposed for Taylors Hill West Reserve include a community centre, two ovals with lighting, lawn bowls greens and a multi-purpose court.
Burnside Heights Football Club president Justin Peagram said the club was involved in community consultation during the development of the plans early last year.
“We were able to give feedback, because we see things from a practicality point of view,” Mr Peagram said.
“We’re happy to see that it’s going to be a strong community and sporting based facility.”
Mr Peagram said the club welcomed the arrival of more facilities to suit families with young children.
“Hopefully the works are finished in time for the next football season.”
