MP calls for major bus service improvements

MEMBER for Altona Jill Hennessy MP has called on the Minister for Public Transport, Terry Mulder to provide improved bus services for the West.
Ms Hennessy called on the Minister to take steps to increase local bus services in Point Cook, Hoppers Crossing, Laverton, Altona and Altona Meadows as soon as possible, so as to improve the movement of locals to train stations, population centres, schools and local amenities.
“Local bus services that function efficiently will encourage greater usage, easing the pressure on railway infrastructure and local road infrastructure, which is an ongoing daily issue for many in the local community,” she said.
“Population growth in the West has led to the eternal dilemma for local residents; the roads are congested and so it’s a nightmare to drive; the bus services are inadequate to get to the station where it’s too hard to find a car park.
“The car parking problems at Laverton and Hoppers Crossing, along with recent changes to services on the Altona Loop, means better solutions must be found.”
