HOBSONS Bay City Council will offer free pool safety checks until 30 June 2012 to ensure backyard pools are up to scratch.
Hobsons Bay Mayor Tony Briffa said the council has conducted a number of safety audits of known pools and spas in recent years.
“Residents in Hobsons Bay, and indeed throughout Victoria, can only install a pool if they have the necessary building permit,” Cr Briffa said.
“The owner and occupier of every property where a pool has been installed have a legal responsibility to ensure that the pool safety barrier is maintained.
“Council officers can inspect existing pools upon request to ensure they meet safety regulations.
To request a pool safety check, please contact the council’s building department on 9932 1000.
