LAST month The Substation hosted a Creative Enterprise Conference where a group of community leaders with a focus on the Western region, gathered to meet like minds and explore new ideas.
Tanya Lacy from Intercept was a key organiser of the event.
She said the challenge was to explore how societal problems could be tackled differently using commercial models.
“Not using grants, not using charity but using commercial models … so that problems can be addressed in a financially sustainable and economically self reliant way rather than relying on one off hand outs and grants,” she said. The leaders from a range of sectors including arts, policing, youth development, design and social entrepreneurship attended the conference.
Ms Lacy said her experience in business and problem solving as well as being the mother of a child adopted from Africa helped with putting together the conference.
Ms Lacy added the conference was a huge success where representatives from all over the West met and got their creativity flowing. The conference was a three-day event with information and networking sessions, key speakers and a creative economy dinner.
