ALTONA Meadows teenager Olivia Giarrusso is making a splash in the fashion and performance industry.
Two years ago, Olivia featured in Star when she was a state finalist in the Girlfriend Rimmel Model Search.
Now aged 19 years old, Olivia signed with the Reel Faces model agency a month ago.
“Mostly since I started modelling I’ve been trying to get an agent, as it’s much easier to find work that way,” she said.
Last year, she was the face of the clothing label Princess Highway during their spring 2011 campaign.
Olivia also models fashion for the website of Altona store Truancy and has featured in a music clip for the band Indigo and the Bear.
Since signing with Reel Faces, she also plans to take up drama classes so she can audition for commercials and acting roles.
“It will be interesting to see what filming is like, as I’ve mostly done print and runway,” Olivia said.
“I think acting in general would be quiet fun, but if the option came along, I also like to try presenting.
“It’s really weird, when my friends are taking photos of me I’m like, ‘Oh my God’, but with modelling I’m a lot more confident and it’s lots of fun.”
Olivia said other young people, who hope to become models, should remain patient and work hard.
“The industry is so big and people know what they want, you do get a lot of rejections,” she said.
“But the industry is so big that someone will want you for their project eventually, so you just have to keep trying.”
