MOVING thousands of costumes from Altona to Laverton North is no small job but Shantelle Gauci is up to the task.
Ms Gauci owns Court Jester Fancy Dress, which presently located in Altona’s Harrington Square.
However the store will soon relocate to a new location at the corner of Fitzgerald Rd and Everaise Crt in Laverton North.
Ms Gauci said business was booming and the new shop would feature more storage space, to help meet customer demand.
When Court Jester Fancy Dress finishes moving into their Laverton North premises they will become the biggest costume retailer in Melbourne.
“I would definitely say that it’s exciting, it leaves me a bit speechless,” Ms Gauci said.
“We will have over 10,000 costumes and accessories in-store daily.”
She said the business would still do costume hiring, but was also moving into the retail area.
Court Jester Fancy Dress’ new site is only four kilometres from Harrington Square, but Ms Gauci said she was sad to be leaving Hobsons Bay.
Her store, which won the Hobsons Bay Business Awards 2011 Retail category, will now be located within the Wyndham municipality.
Fancy dress is a family affair for Ms Gauci, who took over running the store from her aunty.
“I took it on and I loved it. I never thought I’d work in a costume shop,” she said.
“A lot of people feel self-conscious or nervous and worry they won’t look good in fancy dress, but I love transforming them and seeing them enjoy themselves.
“I’m really passionate about the 1920s. I love pearls, elegance and shimmer.”
