ALANA Pavlovic hopes to one day mix music with the best of them.
During a six-week course the young Hillside resident will be shown the ropes behind the turntable and may be given the opportunity to live out her dream of playing at a club on one of the world’s greatest party islands.
Alana, 20, was one of 72 DJs selected from 4500 hopefuls to take part in the ‘Your Shot’ training course.
After the course, finalists will go on to perform in front of live audiences with the overall winner chosen to play at the iconic Paradise Club in Mykonos.
But the music lover can’t believe she has made it this far.
“I was ecstatic when I found out,” she said.
“I think it shows anyone can buy the equipment to be a DJ, but you have to have the personality too.
“I’m just enjoying the ride for now.”
And it’s a busy ride for the avid clubber who juggles part-time work and university with her hectic social life.
Inspired by legendary mix master Tiesto, Alana believes being a successful DJ is not only about playing the right music but also about assuming a tangible stage presence and getting crowds to enjoy your take on songs.
A fan of hard house music, Alana said the industry, which continues to be dominated by men, is now more accepting of females and she can’t wait to play in clubs across Melbourne.
“It’s worth all the hard work. I just want to get a career going.”
