Crash course

AUSTRALIA’S “most advanced Emergency Training Centre” has opened in Altona.
The $4 million RAA Emergency Training Facility will offer classes for employees of offshore oil and gas platforms and people who regularly fly over water in helicopters.
The training centre will teach pupils how to survive in life-threatening situations, such as when helicopters crash into water.
It will feature two 11-metre long pools which can be used for training, where students are dunked in the water strapped into a fake helicopter cabin and shown how to evacuate.
RAA general manager Robert Brockley said the new Red Alert Emergency Training Centre “is the only centre of its type along the entire Eastern seaboard”.
