No illegal crackers

BRIMBANK City Council has encouraged residents to dob in anyone in possession of illegal fireworks.
The council has encouraged people who witness others setting off illegal fireworks contact Victoria Police immediately on 000.
In January last year, Tarneit resident Carlos Rodriguez died after sustaining head injuries when fireworks exploded in his face.
Hours before his tragic death, police had raided a St Albans shop which allegedly sold the firework which injured the father-of-two.
“Not only do serious penalties, including fines and imprisonment exist for their use, but when used by non-licensed persons they present a very real threat to the people setting them off, and the general public,” a Brimbank City Council statement said.
“Every year many people are hospitalised with serious injuries, including burns, eye injuries, and severe hand injuries.
“These dangers also extend to the possibility of fire, due to fireworks falling into grassed areas.
“Council seeks the community’s cooperation in stopping illegal fireworks. If you know someone who has them, remind them of the dangers and penalties that exist.”
