THE community will get an opportunity to find out how the Hobsons Bay police protect the community during its open day.
The police open day will be held on Tuesday 17 December between 10am and 2pm in conjunction with the Altona Beach Market in Logan Reserve, Altona.
The event will also be one of the last opportunities to see the Police Pipe Band defore it is disbanded.
Hobsons Bay police Inspector Richard Paterson said the open day will be an interactive event for all ages.
“We welcome people to come and explore the resources we use to make our community safer and experience a great family event.”
First Constable Noah Beasley said the community engagement initiative will feature a list of police units on the day.
The event will feature highway patrol vehicles, members from the critical incident response team and the mounted branch and police mini cars for the kids.
“People can explore our resources and ask questions of specific agencies.”
Insp Beasley said it was an opportunity for people in the community to interact with the people whose job is to keep them safe.
“It’s important we bridge gap with people we don’t commonly deal with, for them to know we are just people as well here to do a job and keep everyone safe.”
Crime Stoppers and the Blue Ribbon Foundation will also attend the event and The Police Pipe Band will make a special appearance.
It could be the last time the community will see the band perform after police authorities decided to reassign the band members.
The musicians will be offered training at the police academy.
