THE City of Melton came together last week to launch the council’s 2013/17 Disability Action Plan.
Community service providers, people with disabilities, their families, carers and Melton City Council representatives united last Thursday to unveil the four-year plan.
The council hopes the Disability Action Plan will create an inclusive and accessible community in which all people are able to participate and be valued.
The Action Plan identifies barriers to participation for people living with a disability in the municipality and outlines a number of actions to be delivered over the next four years.
Mayor Bob Turner said the Disability Action Plan provided an opportunity for improving accessibility across the city for residents and visitors.
“The council is committed to addressing the barriers that people with a disability face on a daily basis and will continue to work towards creating an inclusive and accessible community in which all people are able to participate and be valued,” Cr Turner said.
“The plan reinforces the underlying principle that we all share responsibility for ensuring that people with a disability, and their carers, pursue their interests, and have the same opportunities as everyone else.”
