But it’s all for the kids.
The general manager of Sunshine’s Visy Cares Hub, Ms Hart has been the driving force behind the service for disadvantaged youth for the past five years.
Billed as a one-stop-shop, the hub is a conglomerate of services for young people from legal and counselling to education, health and recreation services.
A qualified child protection worker, Ms Hart has always had a passion for young people and a mission to make their lives better.
Although it’s a rewarding role, it’s one that often goes unrecognised.
But after a quarter of a century working with underprivileged youth, the dedicated social worker has finally got the recognition she deserves.
Ms Hart has been named one of Melbourne’s 100 most extraordinary people by the Age Melbourne Magazine.
“I was honoured to be nominated,” Ms Hart told Star.
“It’s a milestone in my career and it was such a privilege to share it with so many amazing and inspirational people.”
Although it can be difficult dealing with some of the horror stories, Ms Hart said she wouldn’t exchange her job for the world.
“Of course if you’re a human being it’s heart-wrenching,” she said.
“It can be awful listening to young people’s experiences but at the end of the day, it’s something you’re trained to deal with.
“I’m always driven by the end result which is helping young people who don’t have access to the same opportunities as those who are more privileged.
“Some of the kids have been with us for three years and it’s so rewarding watching them grow up and blossom and reach their goals.”
One of the major functions of her role is fund-raising, which can be a challenge in itself.
“Of course it’s always difficult convincing people to give me their money but we have a lot of great supporters who can see the difference we’re making in the Western Region.”
Visy Cares Hub relies on donations. Anyone wishing to contribute can contact Ms Hart on 9091 8201.
