A POLICE investigation has been launched after a teenage mother abducted her baby during a supervised visit in Sunshine last week.
Four-month-old Destinie Bowles was taken by her mother while in Department of Human Services care on Wednesday.
The baby girl was seized by her mother, 17-year-old Danielle Bowles, during a supervised visit at a home in Hertford Rd at around 11am.
Ms Bowles, who is known to police, was subject to a child protection order.
She was apprehended in Gippsland following a 24-hour manhunt.
The teenage mum, along with two associates β a woman in her twenties and a man in his twenties were taken into custody by police at around 1.30am on Saturday.
They are currently helping police with their enquiries.
The baby girl was unharmed.
The incident has raised questions as to how the mother managed to elude DHS staff but police have so far refused to divulge further details.
βAt this stage it’s something we’re investigating and at this stage I can’t comment,β Sunshine Detective Senior Constable Paul Ziebell told reporters on Friday.
DHS staff were unavailable for comment.
