Teen mum flees with own baby

A POLICE investigation has been launched after a teenage mother abducted her baby during a supervised visit in Sunshine last week.
Police hold grave concerns for the welfare of four-month-old Destinie Bowles who was taken by her mother while in Department of Human Services care on Wednesday.
The baby girl was seized by her mother, 18-year-old Danielle Bowles, during a supervised visit at a home in Hertford Rd at around 11am.
Ms Bowles, who is known to police, is currently subject to a child protection order and was last seen in the western suburbs on Thursday.
Sunshine Detective Senior Constable Paul Ziebell urged the young mum to return the child.
“We just want to know that they’re both alright,” he told reporters on Friday.
“It’s been three days and it’s a four-month-old.
“Obviously we’ve got concerns and we want the child back.”
Police are also expected to investigate how the woman managed to take the child from under the noses of DHS supervisors but refused to divulge further information.
“At this stage it’s something we’re investigating and at this stage I can’t comment,” Det Sen Const Ziebell said.
Police believe the mother may be travelling with another young woman and a man aged in his late twenties.
The trio fled in a blue Ford Laser or Hyundai Sedan.
Interstate police have been notified of the incident, along with Ms Bowles’ family.
Anyone with any information concerning the whereabouts of Ms Bowles and her daughter are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au.
