Ten twinkling years

By Natalie Gallenti
WHEN Rebecca Demicoli first got a call from Delfin Realty asking her to start a dancing school she could not foresee the success she and her husband John would have.
Ten years on and Dance Effects Studio in Deer Park has almost 400 pupils and a reputation as one of the most professional dance studios in the area.
Mrs Demicoli, who began dancing at only three, said she gets to live out her dream every day.
The Altona Meadows resident described dancing as her life and said she found it extremely rewarding to pass on her expertise to eager youngsters.
“I get to live my dream every day and it’s so rewarding to pass my knowledge onto others,” she said.
“It’s even more exciting to see hundreds of children developing.”
The studio caters for all different levels of dance – from mums and bubs classes right through to young ladies looking to pursue a dancing career.
But she said for those looking to become professional dancers, there were many hours of hard work ahead of them.
“It’s extremely disciplined, but if dance is something you love, then it’s what you have in you and you have to do it.”
The professional dance instructor who teaches both ballet and jazz said when the family business was first established it was a case of sink or swim.
“We put everything into buying the factory and it was a lot of hard work. It was a make or break.”
And a decade on, they have well and truly made it.
“Not in my wildest dreams did I think it would be this successful. We started off with 27 children in our first concert and last year there were nearly 400.”
