LANA Schwarcz will be looking for love and laughs when she makes her solo stand-up debut at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The Yarraville puppeteer and performer has been based at Brimbank City Council’s Sunshine Art Spaces for the past 12 months.
She is presently busy preparing for the Melbourne festival and also the Adelaide Fringe Festival.
Her show ’Love Monster’, directed by Claire Hooper from ’Good News Week’, will be on at The Imperial Hotel in Melbourne.
Ms Schwarcz said although she had stayed away from using personal relationships for comic material in the past, she will reveal some “deeply personal” stories as part of the concert program.
“It is about love and, unfortunately, I feel sorry for all my ex-boyfriends because they do get a bit of an airing during the show,” she said.
“It’s about being single for years and coming to love that, but also my relationship to love.”
As part of her preparation for the show, Ms Schwarcz set up a profile on dating website where she wrote:
“I am doing a show about being single, you should see it to find out if you want to date me.”
She hopes potential partners will attend her comedy show and message her afterwards if they are interested.
“So now I’m worried, I’ll get all these weird single guys, so if any single ladies want to come and balance out the audience, please feel free,” Ms Schwarcz said.
Ms Schwarcz said she enjoyed hearing the audience’s reaction to the shows which she writes.
“I love being surprised by how things come out,” she said.
“It’s great. That’s where the addiction is – it’s certainly not the money.”
‘Love Monster’ will be on from 26 March-6 April at 6pm and 12 and 19 April at 4pm at The Imperial Hotel, corner Bourke and Spring streets, Melbourne. A special show on 14 April at 4pm will be performed in Auslan. Tickets: www.trybooking.com/68936
