BRIMBANK residents of all ages have been invited to become mentors and mentees as part of a program which provides guidance and advice for young people.
The not-for-profit organisation YouthNow needs 30 mentors for a secondary school mentoring program and a community mentoring program which is due to begin during mid-March.
A member of the YouthNow mentoring program, Earl de Blonville, led Australia’s first Arctic expedition in 1986 and went on to become an international leadership expert.
Mr de Blonville will share his mentoring wisdom with the crowd when he speak at YouthNow’s annual general meeting on Wednesday 19 March in Sunshine.
YouthNow’s mentoring coordinator Bill O’Connor said mentoring relationships often became a “wonderful and positive experience for both mentors and mentees”.
“A lot of mentors want to give back,” Mr O’Connor said.
“They understand that young people need another perspective.”
As a successful recipient of Brimbank City Council’s Community Grant’s program, YouthNow need mentors on an on-going basis throughout the year.
Mentors are usually between 22 and 65 years old, while their mentees are aged 14 to 25.
