A MARKET that has been created with a lot of heart is being held to raise money for facility upgrades to improve a well-used community hub.
Craft with Heart is a craft market raising money to aid in the refurbishment of the Williamstown Church of Christ facilities.
The building is home to a free weekly soup kitchen called Helping Hand Café and a free Saturday learning program for adults which cater for the needs of those in the community.
It is also used by a number of community groups.
The market will feature more than 20 stalls by local sellers of clothes, craft, gifts and more.
There will be a sausage sizzle, live entertainment, coffee and cake, Devonshire tea and a white elephant stall.
Event co-ordinator Kate Pearson said the market was an idea she had some time ago, in response to the community’s growing need to be local, sustainable and connected.
“At the market we hope people will find great products, friendly people and generally a place full of positivity, possibility and enthusiasm.”
“There is an open air market in the area but very little that happens indoors in a safe environment where people can connect.”
Williamstown Church of Christ Minister Megan Jung said the church had a “real heart” for those who were disadvantaged in the Williamstown area.
“We thought what better way to raise money for our facilities, which are used a lot by the community, than having an event that everyone in our local neighbourhood can come along to.”
She said they were hopeful everyone in the local area would come to the market to raise funds so they can do more for the community in the future.
Craft with Heart will be held on Saturday 29 June, 10am-3pm inside the hall on the corner of Douglas Parade and John St, Williamstown.
