COMMUNITY Services Minister Mary Wooldridge last week announced $450,000 in funding to support people with disabilities to participate in Neighbourhood Houses.
Through the Small Inclusion Grant Program, the State Government has awarded 27 Neighbourhood Houses with grants of between $10,000 and $30,000 to help more Victorians with a disability participate in community activities.
“We want to help Neighbourhood Houses be modern and accessible places that are responsive to the changing needs of their local communities,” Ms Wooldridge said.
She said the grants would be used to help improve the life skills of local people by funding initiatives such as leadership courses in Sunshine, IT facilities in Ascot Vale, Carrum Downs and Cockatoo and accessible kitchens in Meredith and Warragul community centres. Outdoor skills are being promoted through gardening projects in Broadmeadows and Corio.
