LIGHTS, camera, action. Musical lovers are in for a treat in the coming weeks as the Altona City Theatre Company prepares to enthral crowds with their production of Bye Bye Birdie.
The iconic musical is set in the 1950s when the American music scene is going crazy for rock star Conrad Birdie.
All is not well behind the microphone though with Conrad’s manager Albert Paterson slowly losing all his money on the client he has staked his future on.
The situation is not helped when Conrad is conscripted into the army, which leads to a special farewell concert where one lucky female fan will win a kiss from the rock star.
Taylor Branecki plays the manipulative Kim MacAfee in the production and can’t wait for the debut night on October 21.
“Kim is 15 years old and is the sort of character that wants to grow up a little too fast. We are the same age and that makes her really fun to play,” Taylor said.
The cast and crew have been rehearsing on Saturdays for the past two months but with the big date getting closer, they are about to step up their workload.
“We are just starting to get into more full-on rehearsals, which is very exciting. I’m pretty used to performing now but still just before you go on stage there will always be a few nerves. There will be a lot of adrenaline flowing that night,” Taylor said.
The cast will perform five shows between October 21 and 28.
