FOR Sandra Allan art is a way of life.
The Kealba resident has spent the best part of a decade passing her passion for creating unique pieces of beauty onto her students.
And now art enthusiasts from across Melbourne will get a chance to view her masterpieces at ‘Imagine’ – an exhibition developed by the Western Region Arts Network.
Ms Allan said her latest work involved a series of white canvasses embroidered with black thread.
She said the artwork was motivated by fashion and the movement of the body and she was particularly keen to explore the impact of black and white on the viewer.
“People respond differently to colour,” Ms Allan said.
“Colour symbolises something different for everyone.
“Imagine there was no colour.
“As a result of this series, I’m trying to achieve a deeper understanding of not having colour.”
While the experienced artist works with a variety of mediums including paint, sculpture and textiles; fibre art remains her passion.
“I’m trying to paint through my sewing machine.
“It’s almost uncharted territory in Australia.”
One of the founding members of the Western Region Arts Network, Ms Allan said her latest pieces took over three months to complete and she was proud of the end result.
She said the exhibition would give audiences an insight into various forms of art.
Imagine will be featuring at the Arthouse Ink Gallery, 16 Hall Street, Yarraville, from October 15 to 30.
