Centre opens doors to health

A NOT-for-profit community centre and Brimbank Community Centre will host a health seminar on Saturday 16 February in Cairnlea.
The Australian Community Dawah Centre will hold their Health Seminar 2013:
Annual Health Awareness Program at the Victorian Croquet Centre on the weekend.
The event will include presentations by Kellie-Ann Jolly, director of cardiovascular health at Heart Foundation Victoria, and Sunshine Hospital cardiologist Dr Rashid Bashir.
The Dawah Centre’s chairperson Abdul Khan said the organisation dealt mainly with youth and adult development.
“This seminar will be about kidney related issues, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular health,” he said.
“We also intend to conduct some health checks.”
Mr Khan said the annual health event had been running since 2009.
“The benefits, you would not believe it,” he said.
“At the first seminar we had 10 people diagnosed with a heart blockage, 50 people who didn’t know they had diabetes and 100 people who didn’t know they had high blood pressure.
“If someone has a disease, we want them to know there’s help there and also education.
“It’s an awareness program and we can teach them how to deal with their health problems through healthy eating and exercise.”
Seating at the event will be limited and the dress code will be modest/formal.
The event will be on 5.30pm-9pm at Victorian Croquet Centre, 65 Nobel Banks Dve, Cairnlea. Contact Mr Khan on 8361 7292 or acdc_melb@hotmail.com for more information.
