A MUSICIAN passionate about her local community is encouraging young budding artists to speak out and get a taste for live music and performing.
Twice nominated ARIA artist and Altona native Marie Wilson has been a professional musician since the late 1990s.
It was a break away from her career that made her realise she not only wanted music in her life but to give back to her community.
“I didn’t want to go back to playing at pubs I wanted to add a different element, that was contribution putting back into the community the best way I know how to do that is through my music,” Ms Wilson said.
Gigs4good: Live Music for a Good Cause was launched by Ms Wilson and co-founders Jeanne Thompson and Jacki Ames as a movement dedicated to raising funds for non-profit and community organisations.
“The philosophy is to be performing live which is what I love to do, Gigs4good events donate 50 per cent of all ticket sales to a nominated good cause.”
From the creation of this movement a new idea was born, which Ms Wilson called Hungry4Music.
Hungry4Music is designed to help emerging musicians and performers build sustainable professional careers in music.
“We will hold a few workshops that inspire young people to believe in themselves hopefully those young kids will put on live music shows for their communities.”
“We want to educate and encourage a young breed of musician who care for their community.”
Hungry4Music will hold shows on Wednesdays at Sunset Thai, 117 Pier St, Altona starting on the 20 March.
Half of all tips received is donated by the artist to ‘Swags for Homeless’ a charity focused on supporting and bringing back dignity to homeless people.
