WERRIBEE has blasted its way into the Victorian Sub District Cricket Association semi-finals with a 260 run win over the Kingston Saints.
After winning the toss and batting on day one, the Tigers enjoyed a dominating session in the middle with big scores littered throughout the innings.
David Wolfe was the pick of the batsmen, hitting his maiden century for Werribee with a classy 110.
He was well supported by captain Shaun Dean who made 64 while Tim O’Brien also made 53.
The avalanche of runs continued all afternoon with the Tigers’ innings eventually coming to a halt at 4/362.
When play resumed the following day, the Kingston Saints batsmen knew they were facing a tough task and it didn’t take long for the pressure to build.
Werribee’s Matt Thompson was unplayable with the ball, destroying the Saints’ batting line up with figures of 7/22 as the Tigers sprinted to the finish line and sealed the massive win. Werribee president Ivo Havard was rapt with the efforts of the first XI.
“It was a good day. The boys turned up and played very well,” he said.
“They really put their stamp on what they want out of the season with that performance. Every wicket was a big celebration.
“They were playing finals cricket our blokes and we are very happy with where we are placed and hopefully they can continue on.”
Werribee will now take on Elsternwick in its semi-final clash this weekend.
The win continues what has been a brilliant year for the Tigers with all sides qualifying for finals.
Despite the club’s second, third and fourth XI’s losing on the weekend, Harvard said the future was looking exciting at Chirnside Park.
“It’s the first time ever we have been able to get all four teams into finals. That is a big plus,” he said.
“We have got some good young talent ready to come through and we are really looking forward to next season and being able to build on that again.
“We are hopeful of getting some good results again. We think we are just starting something and hopefully we can keep building.”
