Craigieburn couple Silvana and Ritchie have had their share of bad luck over the years but refuse to let it dampen their spirits.
Silvana has been battling cancer for the past three years after being diagnosed with melanoma.
Eight months ago, she received a second setback when she was diagnosed with a second form of cancer, this time in the thyroid.
In a devastating twist, Ritchie is also struggling with the vicious disease and is currently undergoing chemotherapy.
But despite their own ill health, the kind-hearted couple still manage to find strength to brighten the lives of others.
The pair are organising a variety show at the Lakeside Reception Centre in Taylors Lakes to raise money for leukaemia.
A caring Silvana has been paying for flyers advertising the event out of her own pension.
Although their own troubles can make life a struggle, Silvana told Star giving up was never an option.
The pair has previously raised money for numerous charities, including Bluey Day and the Peter MacCallum Centre.
“It’s not easy organising things in the first place but when you’re not well yourself, it’s even more challenging,” she said.
“But when you stop, you might as well give up on life.
“The way we look at it is if people hadn’t helped us, we might not be alive today.
“We’ve received lots of support from people and it’s our turn to pay it forward.
“And charity work also brings us closer together.”
The charity show will include a performance by Jerry Lewis, Neil Diamond and Elvis impersonators and will be held at the Lakeside Reception Centre on 6 May from 6.30pm.
