DETECTIVES from Altona North’s Embona Robbery Taskforce have charged two people in relation to a crime spree in Brimbank and Wyndham this month.
Members of the Special Operations Group arrested a 28-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman in a supermarket car park on the corner of Shaws and Tarneit roads in Werribee last Monday.
Police will allege that the pair were behind a spate of six armed robberies committed in pharmacies and liquor stores over a three-day period.
The first incident was on 2 April when the couple is alleged to have robbed a pharmacy at Werribee Plaza at 5.30pm, stealing cash and prescription medication.
The next morning, another pharmacy was robbed in Fitzgerald Rd, Sunshine West.
Police say an imitation handgun was used in the robbery to threaten staff at the store while cash was taken from the till.
The offender escaped in a getaway car being driven by a woman.
Police believe the man they arrested was involved in another four robberies over the following 24 hours, including hits on two pharmacies in Point Cook, Hoppers Crossing, and at liquor stores in St Albans and Werribee.
Six bottles of prescription medication were stolen, along with around $2000 in cash.
Detectives will allege thatthe woman was driving thegetaway car in at least three of the robberies.
A bottle shop in Millers St, St Albans, was held up but the wouldbe robber was scared off when the shopkeeper produced a baseball bat.
The 28-year-old Werribee man was charged over all six robberies and appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last week.
He was remanded in custody to reappear in court at a later date.
Detectives have charged the woman, also from Werribee, over three of the robberies.
She was bailed to face court at a later date.
