MALCOLM Smith is hoping a desk job at Sunshine’s Visy Cares Hub could catapult him into musical stardom.
The Tullamarine man has been working at the centre for the past four months as part of a Business Administration traineeship.
The 20-year-old plays bass guitar in commercial rock band “Chasing Alice” and believes his course could help him hit the right notes.
“I pretty much manage the band and I’m hoping this course will help me do that,” Mr Smith said,
“Having a good knowledge of administration and a good business head always helps.”
The former Sunshine resident began work at the centre in February after scoring the job through a Centrelink employment agency.
As part of the role he undertakes a lot of administration work and often mans the front reception desk.
“It’s a great opportunity and everyone at the hub is so friendly so it doesn’t feel like coming to work every day.”
But Mr Smith confessed balancing work with his music career was an uphill battle.
“I probably don’t get as much sleep as I should but I get by pretty well.”
