NATASHA Quinney may have lost half her body weight, but the self-respect she has gained is what leaves the Sunshine mum brimming with happiness.
Over the course of 18 months, Natasha lost 45 kilograms and is now a healthy and energetic mum who can keep up with a spritely two-year-old.
The 29-year-old said the turnaround came two months after having her daughter when instead of losing the ‘baby weight’, she gained another 10kg, tipping the scales at 105kg.
Natasha said after undergoing an emergency caesarean section she began to have severe back pain, which left her almost immobile for months after the birth.
“Not being able to move and actually knowing I was putting on weight, I was really down on myself,” she said.
It was at that moment that she decided to start calorie-counting and exercising – something she had never done before.
“I never had a clue about calories. Before I had my daughter we bought a treadmill, I started off with an easy walk. Now I can run on it.”
She said the best part of losing weight was the confidence that came with finally having control of her life again.
Simple tasks that most people take for granted, like exercising in front of others, is no longer daunting for Natasha and she even hopes to take up yoga soon.
“I can’t even begin to put into words how much I’ve gained. I don’t think you can ever be that weight and happy with yourself.
“I have my self-respect back.”
And she said if she can do it anyone can.
“Do one thing at a time, it can be overwhelming, but if you do it bit by bit, you’ll get there.”
