FLYING to Los Angeles to make music with industry heavyweights sounds like the work of a Hollywood starlet.
But for one Keilor Downs 20-year-old, that dream scenario is on the agenda.
Steven Theochari has always been musical and decided from the tender age of six that he would one day make a living from singing.
“It’s hard to pick just one thing, but I think it’s when I sing, it just releases all the stress or tension from a day,” Steven said.
He’s also dabbled with guitar and piano, and is working on writing original material.
When he saw a competition looking for a talented musician to fly to LA for a six-day intensive music workshop, Steven jumped at it – and won.
“I’ve been wanting to travel and go to America, but with jobs here and my music I didn’t want to uproot myself,” he said.
“But this is the perfect opportunity. I’m just hoping to learn and meet a lot of people.”
No stranger to the entertainment industry, Steven has worked as a model and actor, even appearing in the television series the Ultimate High School Musical, which he described as a “huge rollercoaster journey”.
It’s not all rock’n’roll though. The 20-year-old also works two jobs.
“It’s hard to do the daily grind when I’ve got my sights set so much higher,” he said.
“I want to be international, worldwide, the sky’s the limit. I don’t have any restrictions.”
