IT’S not all pom poms and tumbles for cheerleader Zoe Berry.
The athletic teenager, who trains with Cheerfactor in Tullamarine, said a lot of hard work went into performing stunts that most could only marvel at, but for her it was worth it.
“It’s so different, but I love it,” Ms Berry said.
A trained dancer and gymnast, young Zoe said cheerleading was simple – provided you were co-ordinated.
“There are a lot of stunts and lifting people in the air.
“We have three to four hour training sessions once a week. But everything comes with hard work.”
Describing it as her real passion, the talented 15 year old said that – despite public perception – cheerleading wasn’t about stuck-up teenage girls all fighting for a place in the front row.
“That’s the stereotype, but it’s not like the movie ‘Bring it On’, everyone is friendly.
“You can gain confidence. It’s like my second family.”
Cheerfactor in Tullamarine will be hosting try outs later this year. Anyone interested should contact Sonia on 0400 503 408.
