DEER Park has the third-slowest internet speed within metropolitan Melbourne, according to new research.
Ookla, an American internet speed measurement agency, ranked Deer Park’s downloading speeds as third-lengthiest at 5.7 megabits per second (mbps).
Truganina was the slowest at 4.4mbps and Epping second-slowest at 5.5mbps.
However, Werribee had the sixth-fastest downloading times at 17.2mbps, while Footscray was ranked ninth.
Croydon was first on the list with a downloading rate of 29.1mbps.
Mehmet Kurmus from EAP Computer Repairs, which is based in Cairnlea and services the Deer Park region, said he was surprised by Ookla’s findings.
Mr Kurmus said he thought Deer Park’s internet speed was “quite good”.
He said internet times depended on how close people lived from an exchange and what retailer they used.
He said the closer someone lived to an exchange, the faster their internet downloading times would be.
Mr Kurmus said Deer Park had one exchange, which also serviced Cairnlea and part of Ardeer.
“I’m about 3.5 kilometres away from the exchange and my internet speed is quite fast,” he said.
“The further you go away, the more the speed drops. When you’re about 4km away, it drops dramatically.”
