In search of Miss Universe

IF Jennifer Hawkins can do it then why not Newport resident Lisa-Anne Hammer?
The 23-year-old will be competing in the preliminary finals for Miss Universe at Werribee Shopping Centre this Friday.
Lisa-Anne said she has thought about entering the pageant for several years but never got around to it until now.
The dance teacher and nanny also has an Honours Degree in Child Psychology.
“I definitely want to work in developmental psychology one day but I want to be more hands on in the field,” she said.
“I want to use my degree in a more productive way to work with children but not just from behind a desk.
“Ultimately modelling is great on the side but my passions are dancing and working with children.”
Two years ago Lisa-Anne competed in Miss World and was one of the top three finalists in Victoria.
“My parents are excited and proud of me. My mum has always pushed me to enter competitions like this and I thank her for that,” she said.
Lisa-Anne said she makes a lot of friends through competing in pageants.
“I think a lot of people want to assume that there is a lot of cattiness between contestants but in terms of me and the people I’ve met there certainly hasn’t been a lot of that,” she said.
Lisa-Anne said winning Miss Universe would change her life.
“I’ve done modelling since I was 16 but having the Miss Universe title would be amazing and an unbelievable feeling,” she said.
