THE City of Brimbank has unveiled a new plan to rejuvenate Deer Park Railway station and increase high-density housing along the rail corridor.
At last week’s council meeting, Brimbank Administrators Peter Lewinsky and John Watson approved the draft document to be put out for community consultation early next year.
The Deer Park Railway Station Strategic Opportunities Study seeks to “create a sense of place, hub of activity and point of destination at the Deer Park railway station.”
“As residential land in Derrimut is absorbed, pressure will be place on Deer Park to provide a more diverse and affordable residential offer as the residential release areas reach completion,” the council plan states.
“It is likely that the popularity of Deer Park as a residential location will only rise.”
The plans propose an investigation into the duplication of Station Rd between Ballarat Rd and the Deer Park railway line, taking into account existing road reservation, heritage properties and landscaping.
The study also explores options for the redevelopment of the former Western Autistic School site, improvements in bus and cycle connections and supports the grade separation of the Station Rd level crossing.
Brimbank Administrator Peter Lewinsky said he was pleased to finally initiate the new study in Deer Park.
“Over the last three years council has identified the five different activity areas of Brimbank and in each of these areas there were major strategic studies undertaken, and this is the fifth,” Mr Lewinsky said.
“This is a terrific opportunity for the area of Deer Park to bring together the shopping centre area and look at opportunities for the Orica site.”
Community consultation will begin late January 2013 and run for 28 days.
