RESIDENTS on Mason St in Altona North will see one hour parking restrictions placed outside of 274, 276 and 278 Mason St as a result of a petition received by the council.
In February, Hobsons Bay City Council received a petition from residents of the street who claimed gym goers from the Bayfit Leisure Centre were sometimes blocking driveways and causing traffic congestion on the street.
As a result of the petition, councillors last week moved to install one hour parking restrictions on the street and issue residents with parking permits.
Councillor Bill Tehan said the problem had been going on for some time.
“Particularly on the north side of Mason St the patrons of Bayfit were blocking driveways… it has been observed by council officers that this is a problem and it needs to be rectified,” he said.
Cr Tehan said the one hour restriction should be sufficient time for visitors in the street to park.
“If you go up there particularly… at late afternoon, I can certainly sympathise with the residents.”
