NEWPORT resident Jake Carr is well on his way to becoming a superstar in the boxing ring.
Three weeks ago Jake took out the Australian super middle weight title in just his fifth professional fight.
Jake had his first amateur fight at age 15 and for the last four years he has worked his way up to the professional ranks little under a year ago.
“Getting a victory like that is a big achievement,” he said.
Boxing has been Jake’s full time job for the last four years and he shows no signs of slowing down with a twice a day, five to six days a week training regime.
Before that, he was an aspiring AFL footballer who was talented enough to represent TAC Cup club Western Jets.
With his father, Rod, a Commonwealth and Australian champion has big dreams for his career.
“In the professional rank I moved and progressed very quickly. My ultimate goal is world title.”
He admits he went into the fight three weeks ago as the underdog but his win has improved his confidence.
“I believe in myself confident in my ability, I can go all the way.”
“Since the fight the amount of support and recognition has been amazing.”
“I’ve gotten a lot of praise from everybody in boxing works and everybody follows sport.”
Jake said with his team behind him, he looks forward to a successful career that will come with time.
“It’s in my nature to always be improving what I do, no matter what sport – I’ve always wanted to be the best.”
“I’m very competitive and always wanting to achieve the best I can.”
