MELTON Shire Council Mayor Justin Mammarella is asking residents to open their hearts to the Heart Foundation’s Doorknock Appeal this month.
The appeal runs until Sunday 18 September and fund-raises for research into cardiovascular diseases and community projects to improve awareness, prevention and treatment of heart disease.
“ I was concerned to learn that heart disease is the number one killer of Australian men and women,” said Cr Mammarella.
“By supporting the work of the Heart Foundation, we can all help someone close to us or others in the community.
“I urge everyone to please dig deep and make a donation when a Heart Foundation volunteer knocks on your door this month.”
In Australia, a life is lost to heart disease every 23 minutes.
