WILLIAMSTOWN is well on track for back-to-back pennants in Division Two Summer League baseball after knocking off frontrunner Springvale on the road on Sunday.
The Wolves have now moved to 11-4 and share top spot on the ladder with Moorabbin, who beat Fitzroy 8-3 over the weekend.
After a somewhat patchy start to the summer, Williamstown steadied in the lead up to the Christmas break, and has managed to continue in that manner so far this year.
Club president and firsts player Ryan Camov was very upbeat in his assessment of the Wolves’ recent form following their impressive 9-2 win over Springvale.
“We had a very slow start to the season and we didn’t play particularly good baseball, but we hit our stride in our last six games of the season before the break,” Camov said.
“Now we’ve come back first game out, and we’re still playing that really good, quality baseball, with good intensity and good energy, and guys all across the board are contributing.
“So we’re very excited about where we’re at.”
The Wolves were dominant on Sunday with Josh Lee and Jason Lester both having a good day on the mound.
With the bat Aaron Green was consistent, getting a hit from each of his four at-bats for the game.
“We came back from the summer holiday period and everyone was fired up and ready to go, and we had a really good energy and intensity throughout the whole squad,” Camov explained.
“We played really well across the board, and all the guys did really well.
“Our pitching was fantastic, our defence was fantastic and we hit all through the line-up.
“It was honestly just, across the board, a really good performance.”
This Sunday, Williamstown will host Mulgrave, before going on another road trip to face Port Melbourne six days later.
