MAJAK Daw is likely to be playing in the Black and Gold for some time yet after the North Melbourne rookie was suspended indefinitely for going to a nightclub and then lying to coach Brad Scott about it.
Scott said Daw went out, failing to adhere to his rehabilitation regime.
Daw will train with VFL affiliate Werribee and continue his rehabilitation from minor knee surgery under the supervision of North Melbourne’s director of medical services Steve Saunders.
Kangaroos chief executive Eugene Arocca initially refused to divulge details of the events leading up to the dumping, saying it could be detrimental to the 20-year-old who was a “young man under a lot of pressure”.
But Scott said he was forced to clarify the situation to quash defamatory rumours floating around about the rookie.
Daw has been under the spotlight since signing with the Roos two years ago despite not playing an AFL game, due to his status as the first Sudanese born player to land an AFL contract.
Daw showed significant signs of improvement – and flashes of freakish ability – while playing with Werribee last year. He experienced the high of kicking the VFL goal of the year, and the low of being the victim of racial abuse by a Port Melbourne supporter.
Before the injury, Daw was expected to push for senior selection in the early part of the season, but instead has to satisfy the Kangaroos’ leadership group that he was committed to strictly observing the club’s guidelines.
