Do you have the write stuff?

IT IS time to pick up a pen and think of some creative prose for the 2013 Brimbank Writers’ Awards.
The awards are designed to promote writing talent in Brimbank and are open to all people who live, work or study in the municipality.
New to the competition this year is a song-writing category and both the English as a Second Language and children’s categories have been broadened to include short stories, as well as poetry and biographical pieces.
The Brimbank Writers’ Awards Ceremony, part of the Writers and Readers Festival, will be held at the Sydenham Neighbourhood House on Monday 16 September at 7pm.
To provide inspiration, the 2013 Brimbank Writers Awards will offer a series of free workshops with well-known writers.
The English as a Second Language (ESL) writing workshop with Demet Divaroren will be on Thursday 6 June, 1-2pm at AMES St Albans,16 Victoria Square, Victoria Crescent, St Albans. Bookings: 9249 4650.
A song-writing workshop with Massive Hip Hop Choir will be on Saturday 15 June, 2-3pm at Sunshine Library; 301 Hampshire Rd. Bookings: 9249 4640.
A short story workshop with Amra Pajalic will be on Wednesday 19 June from 6.30-7.30pm at Deer Park Library, corner Neale and Station Rds. Bookings: 9249 4660.
A poetry workshop with Sherryl Clark will be on Thursday 27 June from 6.30-7.30pm at Keilor Village Library, Kennedy St, Keilor. Bookings: 9249 4670. The 2013 Brimbank Writers Awards opens on 3 June and will close at 5pm on Friday 12 July.
