A GROUP of talented women will raise the roof at the Substation on Friday 17 May when they perform for their sistas.
Monica McNab, Georgia Brooks and Lexi Keeton, pictured are part of impressive Sista Act, to raise performing arts scholarship funds for the Worawa Aboriginal Girls College.
The ladies will join singer Deborah Conway, comedian Denise Scott, aboriginal opera singer Deborah Cheetham and many more.
Worawa Aboriginal College in Healesville has a strong connection with the performing arts – principal Lois Peeler is one of the original members of the celebrated 1960s Aboriginal group The Sapphires.
The show will be a great night of comedy, opera, dance, cabaret, rock, soul, hip-hop and choir.
The college, for Years 7-10, provides a holistic education and boarding experience for Aboriginal young women from suburban and regional Victoria and regional and remote communities interstate.
Sista Act has been initiated by writer and performer Fiona Scott-Norman, who wanted to support young Aboriginal women, celebrate the talent and diversity of Australian female performers, and make a small contribution to reconciliation.
“I got tired of being a well-meaning white person who never did anything. I think there are a lot of us who feel that way. Sista Act is a first step, and a pretty sweet line-up of talent,” she said.
“Sista Act will be a magic night of women bringing it for their little sistas.”
