ST ALBANS claimed its second win of the Western Region Football League season on Saturday after defeating Yarraville Seddon by 45 points. The victory was set up in the first half with the Saints opening up a 19-point lead at quarter time before breaking the game apart in the second term. St Albans booted six-goals-to-one as the margin ballooned out to 55 points at the long break. The Eagles came out swinging in the third quarter, kicking six goals of their own however the damage was done. St Albans went on to secure the comfortable victory, 18.11 (119) to 11.8 (74). Tim Jenkins was a standout for the Saints, booting four goals while Thomas Stewart, Micael Newport and Marc Dawson were also multiple goal scorers. Saturday’s result sees St Albans move into sixth place on the WRFL ladder while the Eagles sit in seventh.

ALTONA bounced back from its first loss of the WRFL season in the best possible fashion, smashing Port Melbourne by 126 points. The Vikings flew out of the blocks, kicking seven goals in the first quarter, while also holding the Colts scoreless, to open up a 46-point lead. From there, the dominance only became greater as Altona piled on goal after goal and the margin exceeded triple digits. The final score saw Altona 27.11 (173) to Port Melbourne 7.5 (47).
Jayden Post continued his outstanding start to the season for the Vikings, booting six goals. He was well supported by Jordan Robbins and Tyler Healy who kicked four each. Post now has 18 goals for the season. Altona sit in fourth spot on the WRFL ladder with a 4-1 win/loss record for the season. The Vikings will take on fifth-placed Hoppers Crossing in a blockbuster clash this week.

WYNDHAMVALE claimed a hard fought 15-point win against Sunshine Heights in WRFL division two action on Saturday. After taking a three- point lead into quarter time, the Falcons remained on top for the majority of the afternoon and saw off a number of spirited challenges from the Dragons. Daniel Bunworth provided a good target up forward for the Falcons and finished the match with four goals. He was well supported by Noa Fonua, who kicked one goal and was named Wyndhamvale’s best player. For Sunshine Heights, Joshua Stevens was named the Dragons’ best player with four goals. The 13.13 (91) to 10. 16 (76) win sees the Falcons move into fourth spot on the division two ladder with Sunshine Heights holding down fifth. Both teams have a 4-2 win/loss record for the season. In other division two results, West Footscray beat Albanvale, Braybrook defeated Sanctuary Lakes, Parkside smashed Laverton and Caroline Springs got the better of North Sunshine.

THE Werribee Devils had a good night on their home court on Saturday with both their men’s and women’s teams getting wins. The women set the tone first at Werribee Sport and Fitness Centre, with a close four-point win over the Melbourne University Black Angels to keep their perfect record intact. The Devils were forced to play catch-up after the first break after a shocking opening quarter led to a 16-point deficit.
However that margin was pegged back to six points by the main break and two by three-quarter time. A high-scoring final term yielded 30 points at both ends of the court, but was won by Werribee 18-12 for a final score of 52-48. In the men’s game, Werribee scored 81 points for the third game running and secured its second successive win against Hume City by six points. The Devils were dominant in the second half and well-led by Josh Oswald, who finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds.
