TO SAY the competition at Wyncity’s Werribee Superbowl is tough would be an understatement. The 10-pin bowling centre continues to produce outstanding talent on the bowling alley with state and national representation a frequent occurrence among its young stars.
In the coming months, Paul White and Kaitlyn Commane will represent Australia in the Asian Youth Tenpin Championships in Hong Kong.
National duties don’t stop there though with Sam Curry set to bowl as an Australian representative at the Asian School Games in Indonesia. With victory at the Victorian State Masters, David Potro will represent Victoria in the Australia Masters.
Continuing on the Victorian theme, Rebekah Commane and Kahlia Davies will represent the state at this year’s President Shield event in Lidcombe New South Wales.
Wyncity’s Doriana Porto was rapt with the high calibre results all bowlers achieved.
“All these bowlers have transformed from children to quite accomplished athletes,” she said.
“They take their game very seriously and they all form part of the Wincity bowls family.
“It is really an example of our commitment and the centre’s commitment to providing the pathways and encouraging our juniors to participate and take the opportunities that are given to them.
“The opportunities are there for everybody but because we are proactive with the sport, we feel that we can support the kids to achieve their highest results possible.”
There are no plans to slow down at Werribee with Porto confident of more success in the future.
“What we are doing is setting up junior coaching groups to try and instil the basics and make sure it is fun as well so the kids, they will be happy to pursue bigger and greater things,” she said.
