Blues in upset win

By LIAM TWOMEY
KEILOR caused one of the upsets of the Essendon District Football League season on Saturday with the Blues defeating third-placed Aberfeldie by 28 points.
In what was a must-win encounter for the club to keep its finals hopes alive, nothing could separate either side in the first half with both enjoying time in front.
However, after the main break it was Keilor who was able to adjust to the wet and windy conditions first, taking control of the match with a six-goal-to-one quarter.
With the margin at 29 points going into the final change, there was no coming back for Aberfeldie as Keilor secured the win 15.8 (98) to 10.10 (70).
Not surprisingly, Jarrod Garth continued what has been an outstanding season, kicking five goals to be the leading forward on the ground.
Saturday was the eighth time Garth has kicked five or more goals for the season and the fourth week in a row he has finished with a bag of five.
He was well supported by Michael Teal, who finished the match with three goals, while Michael James and Ben Fletcher were the only other multiple-goal scorers for Keilor with two each.
The win keeps Keilor’s finals hopes alive after all looked lost during a tough middle passage of the season.
The Blues currently sit in fifth place on the ladder, one game behind Maribyrnong Park with two rounds left in the season.
However, with Keilor’s percentage almost four points higher than the Lions, a win to the Blues and a loss to Maribyrnong could be enough to see Keilor sneak into the finals.
In their final two matches of the season, the Blues will take on Pascoe Vale and Essendon Doutta Stars.
