Emergency call goes out

MELTON Shire Council is calling on the community to step up and volunteer for the SES.
The Melton State Emergency Service unit currently has around 30 volunteer members and wants to increase its numbers to help support the needs of one of Melbourne’s fastest growing communities.
Mayor Justin Mammarella said the unit had been helping the community for over three decades and residents should consider attending an upcoming information evening to find out more about the SES and how rewarding voluntary work could be.
“If you think you can help your community in times of emergency, I encourage you to attend one of the sessions and find out more,” Cr Mammarella said.
The SES is the control agency for flood, storm, tsunami and earthquake in Victoria and the largest provider of road crash rescue and assistance in the state.
They assist Victoria Police in search and rescue operations, crime scene and play an important role in supporting the CFA during major bushfires.
Information evenings will be held on Tuesday 28 August and Thursday 30 August from 7 to 8.30pm at 90 – 92 High St, Melton. Bookings are not required.
