Shed medics

A MEDICAL centre in St Albans has been ordered to stop using a garage for pathology collection.
The clinic, on Main Rd East, was investigated by Brimbank City Council after a complaint was made that the garage at the rear of the site was being used as a pathology collection centre.
General Manager of City Development Stephen Sully said the council hadn’t issued any planning approvals for a pathology centre, but the clinic asked for a compliance certificate on the basis that they had used the garage for pathology collection for more than 15 years.
However council did not find this to be the case.
Brimbank Council received 35 complaints about planning compliance in June, a slight increase from the 28 received in May.
The investigations include a number of industries along Ballarat Rd in Albion and Sunshine West industrial estates for non-compliance uses, contravention of planning permit conditions and failure to complete landscaping in line with permits issued.
Up to 75 industrial businesses were investigated in Sunshine West, which found 21 properties were in breach of planning permits.
The council has also taken enforcement action against a business in Slater Parade in Keilor East for displaying signage without planning approval.
The signage is highly visible from the Western Ring Rd and a planning infringement notice was issued in January following “several failed attempts” to help the owner achieve compliance, according to a council report.
The council withdrew the notice last month and will take the case to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
