TIM Crowe spent years travelling the globe performing amazing stunts to captivated audiences.
Now the Derrimut resident is passing on his expertise to youngsters who also aspire to reach great heights at the National Institute of Circus Arts in Prahran.
Mr Crowe is also the creator of Circus Hullabaloo, a roving circus which offers after school training to students who are more interested in juggling and trapeze tricks than the more common sports like football and netball.
“It’s about making the circus accessible to everyone,” Mr Crowe said.
Born in Ireland, he said his interest in the big top began when he was a young gymnast and could not resist the temptation to climb and jump anything he could.
“I was always one of those kids into climbing trees.
“In the circus there is a lot more scope for activity compared to gymnastics.”
Originally a flying trapeze artist, Mr Crowe recalled his first attempt at swinging in the air…not with the greatest of ease.
“When I started it was scary. I got halfway up the ladder and thought what have I got myself into.”
Mr Crowe said before forming Circus Hullabaloo he had a regular nine to five job, but his love of the circus was far too enticing.
“Circus arts are fantastically beneficial.
“There seems to be a societal tendency to wrap children in cotton wool these days. But children should explore everything.”
He said despite public perception circus performers required focus and discipline.
